I just finished reading “Steve Jobs“ by Walter Isaacson.
We all know of Jobs’ huge successes and how he has impacted our lives.
However, it was in his catastrophic failures and how he then turned them back into successes that Jobs’ genius really shines.
For example, Job’s childish insistence that MacBooks have a slot for CDs rather than a CD tray created a huge problem for Apple and that miscalculation ultimately lead to iTunes.
As the saying goes, it’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do with it.
Learn to do more with the messes you create!

We all know the saying “Play the cards you’re dealt.”
Unfortunately, as the Buddha said, “To know and not to do is not yet to know.“
Nobody is dealt a perfect hand — ever.
Most people sit and complain about their cards and never play!
It’s as simple as drawing and discarding.
Are you playing strategically to win or did you fold a long time ago?
Your cards are still sitting there — it’s never too late to get back in the game.

Is your desire to have a relationship that’s:
Loving
Passionate
Happy
Growing
Monogamous
Stimulating
Co-Equal
Storybook perfect in every way?
Great!
Welcome to the experiment.
The Disney-fied ideal of romance that such has been the norm is a myth perpetuated upon children by the very people who know it’s a lie.
Nonetheless, a great relationship is a worthy goal for so many reasons (maybe even world peace—?)
Yep.
Stats show that happily coupled men are less violent and men still dominate the world’s power structure — you do the math.
Today, let’s get real about relationships.

Today’s message could well be titled, “Why do good people have bad parents?”
Having great parents puts you ahead in life – – there’s no denying that.
But why do some parents fall short?
And, if your parents fell short what can you do about it?
Today we explore answers to both of those questions so that you can live your happiest life possible.

Monday Feb 25, 2019
I recently did a Jumpstart on how social media can actually make us less happy – – in fact some reports state that social media is worse on our health than smoking.
When I first began the dabble in Facebook my goal was to have as many “friends“ as possible.
“Friends“ became a measuring stick I used to compare myself either favorably or unfavorably to others.
I finally realized how many real friends I have when I got rid of 95% of my “friends.“
Consider gaining new friends by dumping your “friends.“

“When I win the lottery, I’m going to give most of it to charity.“
“When I retire, I’m going to help my community.“
“When my life gets better and less stressful, I’ll start helping those around me more.“
Yeah—right.
I call this the The Dogooders Lie.
It’s a way of placating your best intentions while wasting your life on pursuits that won’t make you happy.
To be honest it’s a selfish act: giving money to charity feels good, helping someone else feels good, improving your society feels good.
You were designed to be magnanimous because inside it gives you a good feeling and there is nothing wrong with that.
Today let’s break free from the The Dogooders Lie in the only way possible – – challenging it head on.

When I’m lying on my deathbed, I hope someone hands me a book titled, “7 Ways to Live Longer.“
LOL!
I’m really serious about this – – no matter where I am or what is going on I want to learn more to improve the situation.
How about you?
I have found that you are either working to improve your life or you are working to rationalize why your life cannot be improved.
There’s no middle ground.
So where do you fall?
If you’re watching these videos, I think I know.
Here’s how to stay motivated to continue to grow, expand and enjoy life.

What do Facebook and a Korean prison have in common?
Well, during the Korean War there was a prison famous for breaking the spirits of captured prisoners.
The guards discovered that if they only let mail come to the prisoners that contained bad news – – no news that reported good events from back home, the prisoners would ultimately give up the will to live and die of their own accord.
And, several studies have found that people who spend a great deal of time on Facebook have higher levels of increased depression.
Why?
Because people present only their best and most attractive selves on Facebook living their greatest life.
This causes Facebook friends to think that their lives are actually much better than they are – – leading to what I call “exposure depression.“
Learn today how to keep your elevated opinions of others in check as you peruse social media.

Have you considered some of the uses for the word “stage?“
We both stand on stages and pass through stages in our lives.
And in both cases, we are playing roles.
Let’s explore the roles we play in the stages we both stand on and move through today.
And, let’s enjoy our stages more and master our roles better.

One of the great benefits of attending weight watchers or Alcoholics Anonymous is hearing that you are not alone in our struggles.
When it comes to our problems, we can become very isolationist – – “no one can understand.”.
This is the ego’s way of trapping you in the problem.
Remembering that people you perceive to be more successful than you, more attractive, more gifted, and more loved, feel every bit as uncertain and frightened as you actually helps you feel less so.
There’s a line in a blue man group song that says “will you see that I am as insecure as everybody else?“
Don’t buy the lie that other people are happier or feel better about themselves just because they’ve got more and shinier stuff than you.
Master the capacity for feeling good about who you are and where you are rather than comparing yourself to others.
