You’d think there’d be lots of stage direction in a script such as “our hero Malcolm stands on the bow of a ship shrouded in the inky darkness of a moonless night and then says....”

Nahhh… a script is just dialogue.  A script is written by a scriptwriter; it’s what is said by each of the characters.  There’s very little scene description in scripts.

And yet, from a script (that’s mostly dialogue), a director is able to visually create the whole movie...that's the power of words.
