JumpStart - Your Bodyguard
Wednesday Apr 29, 2020
Wednesday Apr 29, 2020
Wouldn’t it be great to have someone with us all the time to protect us from threats and difficult situations?
Well, we do have such a person but we block their ability to do the job.
That person is us--ourselves, and rather than being our greatest supporters we often are not only our own greatest critics but we punish ourselves mercilessly for smallest mistakes.
Starting today, let’s switch that dynamic.
Rather than us being harsh and critical, let’s switch and become our own greatest supporter and cheerleader.
It’s not only possible to do this, we MUST learn to become our own bodyguard if we’re going to be healthy, happy, and successful.

JumpStart – Your Inner Popeye
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
Tuesday Apr 28, 2020
The cartoon character Popeye would often say, “I am what I am and that’s all that I am.“
But who was he?
“I am“ is the most powerful combination of words in the English language because it is how we define ourselves to the world.
Many people misuse the power of “I am“ by saying negative and self-limiting things after.
. Today, let’s jumpstart defining ourselves as our ideal selves.
Let’s put the power of “I am“ to work in our lives

JumpStart - The 18% Solution
Monday Apr 27, 2020
Monday Apr 27, 2020
I read a study wherein people were asked to squeeze someone else’s arm and that person was then asked to squeeze the first person’s arm back with the exact same amount of pressure.
The two were instructed to go back and forth each time equally squeezing the other person's arm with the same pressure they had received.
Monitors showed that every time a person's arm was squeezed they would squeeze back 18% harder than what they had received.
This is why anger and discord amplify during a disagreement.
Each person thinks they are responding equally but they are actually increasing hostility and incivility.
In today's JumpStart, we discuss how to overcome this natural propensity to respond 18% more harshly so that we de-escalate conflict rather than increase it.

JumpStart - Faith
Saturday Apr 25, 2020
Saturday Apr 25, 2020
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, Faith looks up.”
And during these uncertain times of pandemic, it’s easy to look back on the way things were and to look around with worry at the way things are.
It’s during this time of isolation that we need to keep our thoughts at the highest levels knowing that there is a divine and loving spirit looking out for us.
Whatever your concept of God, it’s important to expand and lean on that understanding now more than ever.
Today, let’s focus on the light ahead of us rather than the darkness that surrounds us.

JumpStart - Words

Friday Apr 24, 2020
Yesterday I was conducting a live webinar for the members of my Complaint Free Life group when someone asked if there was anything they could do to reverse their complaints.
I explained that there is a very common word - – one that we often use too often and in the wrong contexts, that can put our conversation back on track and erase negative comments.
Today we’ll talk about how to pepper both your internal and external conversation with interjections such as “but” and “but the good news is…”
You’ll discover that it’s actually healthy to argue as long as it’s with yourself and not someone else.

JumpStart - Neighbors
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
So, you’re stuck at home during the Covid 19 pandemic, right?
Well, so is your neighbor and as we discussed in a previous JumpStart, Chaucer was right when he said, “Familiarity breeds contempt.”
(If you want to know why familiarity breeds contempt, check out my JumpStart titled “Respect”)
While some neighbors are arranging virtual happier hours while socially distanced by their driveways, others find themselves beginning to get on one another’s nerves as the sights, sounds, and even smells of being at home 24/7 side-by-side with others causes mounting tensions.
In today’s JumpStart, I tell you the funny story about how even the English word “neighbor” has its origins in an insult to the person living next door so feeling stressed by the people next door has always been a thing.
Can we live side-by-side with peace in our minds and love in our hearts?
Yes, and in today’s JumpStart, I tell you how.

JumpStart - Abracadabra
Wednesday Apr 22, 2020
Wednesday Apr 22, 2020
“Abracadabra!” shouts the magician and in a flash, everything changes!
The word “abracadabra” has been said by magicians around the world throughout time but no one is 100% sure where the word comes from.
We do know that abracadabra is either of Hebrew or Aramaic origin (the language in which the Hebrew Bible was written) and an interesting bit of trivia…
Abracadabra does seem to be an ancient incantation invoking divine action because it’s a combination of ‘ab’ (father), 'ben' (son), and 'ruach hakodesh' (holy spirit).
But that’s not the COOL PART…
When you combine those 3 words in that way not only do you get ‘abracadabra,’ the holy trinity, but the literal meaning in Aramaic is: ‘’IT WILL BE CREATED WITH MY WORDS.
Your life, your world, everything you experience is created by the words you speak.
Join me in this JumpStart and learn to harness the power of our words to create the life you desire.

JumpStart - Tourist Eyes
Tuesday Apr 21, 2020
Tuesday Apr 21, 2020
One of the things I love about living in Key Largo, FL is seeing the look of rapture and joy on the eyes of tourists.
It’s so easy to get accustomed to ourselves, our lives, and our surroundings such that we almost don’t see or appreciate what’s present.
Today let’s talk about cultivating what I call “Tourist Eyes” — eyes of appreciation and wonder, even if what we’re looking at is the inside of our house.
Maybe you’ll find a new project as you ask yourself, “How would someone who is renting this home look at it? What might they change? Fix? Clean out? Rearrange?”
You have a unique opportunity right now to see your life in a whole new way and then create the environment you desire.Let’s get started now…

JumpStart - Respect
Monday Apr 20, 2020
Monday Apr 20, 2020
But what is contempt?
The dictionary defines “contempt” as “the feeling that a person or a thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.”
A recent article in Psychology Today says that it’s not the amount of time that we spend with someone that causes contempt, it’s a “me first” attitude.
Putting ourselves and our needs ahead of those we’re with can cause us to look at our loved ones with contempt making them uncomfortable and us unhappy.
The secret to staying happy in close quarters for an extended period of time is to be wary of focussing on how the quarantine is affecting us and instead seek to understand and support others who are being similarly affected.
Today, let’s talk about how we can minimize contempt and maximize respect and appreciation because that will makes us happier and this time of isolation more bearable.

JumpStart - Patience
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
Saturday Apr 18, 2020
16th Century French monk and writer François Rabelais said, “He who can have patience, can compass anything.”
Back then, the word “compass” wasn’t just used as a noun (a tool to help you find where you’re going), “compass” was also used as a verb (meaning “to get around”).
Therefore, Rabelais saying “If you have patience you can get around anything.”
During the extension of the quarantine for many of us, it’s easy to get angry, disappointed, and frustrated, however we can’t take the easy route.
Patience isn’t just waiting, it’s waiting in a good mood and that mood is up to all of us.
In this JumpStart we talk about ways to have patience during this time of uncertainty so we can all get around it and enjoy happier times that lie ahead.
