JumpStart- Illness Exclusivity
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
OK, sometimes I have perhaps too much time on my hands to ponder things. But, I think you’ll find today’s JumpStart quite revealing (and possibly life-changing). Today, let’s explore how our body seems to know, almost by magic, to back off one illness as another becomes more dominant. Then, consider that if your body is already regulating your level of illness (to one extent or another) just how far can we go to create and regulate ever-increasing levels of health? (BOOM — sound of mind-exploding) Your body and your mind are not separate— they’re one. So, perhaps through conscious mental control we can become more healthy every day. And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

JumpStart- A Tale of Two Accidents
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
It’s every parent’s nightmare—and I lived it. You round the corner pulling onto the highway and there flipped on its side and smoldering is your child’s car. This happened to me one snowy Kansas City afternoon. But Lia is not the only one in our family to have a bad accident recently and the outcomes of the two events could not have been more different — our could they? In today’s JumpStart let’s explore a Tale of Two Accidents and perhaps a new perspective on what we consider “bad news.” And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

JumpStart- Harvey
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
Thursday Feb 20, 2020
Which is better, to be smart or to be kind? For decades I THOUGHT I knew the answer to this question — but, I was wrong. I actually found the correct answer by re-watching the classic Jimmy Stewart movie “Harvey.” You’ve probably seen the movie. Stewart plays Elwood P. Dowd, a true eccentric if ever there was one, who somehow manages to charm everyone he meets. And therein lies the answer. In the movie, Harvey is a Puka — an invisible spirit that teaches important life lessons to mortals like you and me. Only Elwood P. Dowd could see Harvey and he saw him as 7-foot rabbit who loved to booze it up. Today, I’ll not only teach you the answer to the question of kindness vs. smarts but also how to more fully integrate this into your life. And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

JumpStart- “But, the Good News Is…“
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
The other day someone pointed out something I do unconsciously that helps me and others put a positive spin on things. We all experience pain, suffering, disappointment, and even minor irritation on a daily basis. The question is, do we emphasize the struggle or do we seek the blessing that lies behind our challenge. Depending on how you answer that question you’ll either find life a burden or a blessing and the choice is up to you. Today, I’m going to teach you how to reframe life’s problems so that they pass quickly and you’re left with something positive. And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

JumpStart- Can You Say, “Prayer?"
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
The more I study the life of Fred Rogers the more I appreciate and admire this man who taught many of us that we’re special “Just the way we are.” You might be surprised to know that Mr. Rogers was an ordained Presbyterian minister who’s ministry was, specifically designed for children who watched his program. IMr. Rogers got on his knees every evening and prayed — but never for himself. He only prayed for others. Why? And, more importantly, did anyone ever pray for Mr. Rogers? Yes, and he had a very unique way of making sure his prayers were covered. In today’s JumpStart I’m going to teach you not only how to receive prayers but, like Mr. Rogers, how to spread praying among others in a gentle non-invasive way.. Get ready to receive prayer like never before as we explore, “Can you say, ‘Prayer?’” Sure, I knew you could :-D And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

But, there’s a lot more to this story and in it we can learn a lot about human nature and what I call “Natural Compassion.” You are more compassionate than you know and when you tap into that compassion you just might spare yourself a few verbal gun battles . Get ready to tap into your innate compassion to dodge whatever bullets might come your way today. And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. JumpStart- Your Anger Timer
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
Saturday Feb 15, 2020
“If angry, count to 10. If very angry, count to 100.” - Thomas Jefferson Have you noticed that once you become angry about something that it’s very easy to remain angry? In other words, once our switch has flipped to anger, it can be very difficult to turn off that switch because we keep fanning the flames of upset in our minds. Today, let’s consider setting a timer to monitor our anger and then, when the timer is done letting go of whatever is bothering us. It sounds simplistic, but it works. Anger is a mental state and when we give ourselves a timeframe for our anger, we realize that we have a lot more control over how we feel and, more importantly how long something will upset us. Getting angry is normal. But, the duration of our anger is up to us. Starting today, let’s spend less time being angry so we can spend more time being happy. And, may I ask you a favor? If you got something out of today’s JumpStart, would you please forward it on to someone else? Together, let’s build a community of positivity as we make the world a better place. And, remember to post your questions and comments — I respond to them all.

JumpStart- Check Out Your Fantasy
Saturday Feb 08, 2020
Saturday Feb 08, 2020
My mom was the queen of cliche’s. “Look before you leap” was one of her favorites and although it bugged me as an impetuous kid, I see great wisdom in her words now. How about you? Do you have a fantasy? Then, my advice is GO FOR IT…. BUT, going for it should also include being VERY clear about what you want — AND, checking it out. When I moved here to Key Largo I had a list of dozens of things that were important to me but…there’s always some you forget (like an NPR station with a strong signal and good cell coverage.) So, if your current fantasy is a new car, new home, new job, new relationship or, like me, a whole new start in life, you’ll find out how to get started in the right way in today’s JumpStart. And do me a favor, will you? If you like today’s Jumpstart would you please share it with just one other person? Thanks.
