Sometimes experiences happen in our lives that caused us to lose perspective. During moments of fear, stress, or anxiety our brains will actually shut down and we aren’t able to think clearly. On a recent scuba diving trip I experienced one of those moments. I injured myself while diving and I thought that I was in serious trouble. It turns out, that I had just forgotten something from high school science class. And, when I remembered, everything was OK. Sometimes the most difficult thing for us to do when we’re worried or upset is to relax. However, when we are relaxed we are better able to shift perspective and see things more clearly.

It is more likely for an opportunity to show up as a problem than it is for a problem to show up as something exciting. We are surrounded by opportunities and our soul pushes us to harvesting them by creating problems for us to address. It is in the addressing of the problems that we discover not only our strength but great opportunities. The greatest opportunity we have is to improve our relationships. And the most important relationship we can have is with our mother. No one‘s mother is perfect. And everyone’s mother did the very best she could with the resources she had. Therefore, how could we not celebrate ALL moms today on Mother’s Day!

Many people who take the Complaint Free challenge wonder if it’s OK to EVER talk about the negative things that are going on in their life. The answer is, “yes!“ The difference comes down to processing versus venting. Most people vent – – they’re like a pot of boiling water and they pour over onto other people with their negativity and complaints. Venting isn’t constructive or healthy. What you want to do is to process. Processing differs from venting in that it always come back to this one question, “What can *I* change to improve the situation?” Venters are victims. They are seeking validation for their inability to do anything about their unhappy lives. Processors are victors because they are looking for ways to change the only thing we can ever change – – ourselves. Are you a person who vents? Or, do you have systems in place that allows you to process with people who can help you reflect back how you can improve? The choice is up to you.
